1° Level Master in “Migrazione e Sviluppo – Migration and Development”
The 1° level Master in “Migration and Development” is organised by the Department of Social and Economic Sciences – DiSSE of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.
The Director of the Master is Mr Pierluigi Montalbano, Professor of International Economic Policy at the DiSSE and Associate Faculty at the Department of Economics, University of Sussex.
The Master is aimed at training professionals capable of responding to the most pressing needs in the various sectors of the labour market, that currently requires skills linked to the phenomenon of migration and the related issues of sustainable development.
The added value of this course with respect to traditional ones on this subject is to favour a global vision of the migratory phenomena through an approach that goes beyond linguistic and cultural mediation. Indeed, the Master intends to foster knowledge of the phenomenon with regard of human, social and economic development both in the countries of origin and in the countries of destination. Therefore, this approach requires the direct involvement of professors and experts in the field of anthropology, law, economics, political science, health sciences, sociology in order to find the right balance between theoretical and practical approaches.
The Master course in “Migration and Development” is directed to people interested in developing a concrete professionalism in the field of inclusion policies and defense of migrants’ human rights, as well as in the domain of economic and social policies in both public and private organisations, nationally and internationally.
The Master benefits from the strategic partnerships that Sapienza has signed with international organisations, Ministries, think-tanks, study and research centres, non-profit organisations, agencies and NGOs, with the aim of strengthening the proposed curriculum and guaranteeing students a complete and comprehensive view of the issues addressed.
Thanks to the conclusion of a Memorandum of Understanding with FAO and other UN organizations dealing with migration phenomena, particular attention will be paid to the role of vulnerability, resilience and rural development in the countries of origin; to the root causes of the crisis on the long-term (conflicts, bad governance, environment, natural resources); and to policies, strategies and actions undertaken both at the local and the global levels.
The Master offers internship agreements with various NGOs and Reception Centres, as well as with the following institutions:
